BITTERSWEET CHOCOLATE FONDUE

From A Passion for Desserts by Emily Luchetti (Chronicle Books 2003)

You do not even need a fondue pot to make this simple, but delicious chocolate treat. Just put out lots of "dippers" and you have an instant celebration.

(Makes 8 servings)

  • 1/2 cup heavy (whipping) cream
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 11 ounces bittersweet chocolate, finely chopped

Warm the cream and milk in a medium saucepan over medium heat until hot and bubbling around the edges, about 5 minutes. Remove from the heat. Add the chopped chocolate, let sit for 30 seconds, and then whisk until smooth. Pour the chocolate into small decorative bowls.

Place the bowls on the table along with a platter of items to be dipped. Serve with long forks to make dipping easier.
